Tsunamis are huge waves that hit the coasts. Before a tsunami strikes, scientists can spot a few warning signs which may help to save lives. An earthquake can be a warning of a tsunami; tsunamis can cause the ground near the coast to shake for over twenty seconds at a time and may cause the ocean to pull backwards, leaving bare sand where the sea used to be. There may also be loud, booming noises with no apparent cause. However, it is not just humans who can take notice of these warning signs. Around the time that a tsunami is about to strike, animals can be seen behaving strangely or beginning to leave the area. If any of these signs are spotted, you must immediately move away from coastal areas. Make your way to higher ground as quickly as you can – do not stop.

While digging to expand their fort in 1799, a group of French soldiers made one of the most important historical discoveries of all times – the Rosetta Stone. Named after the town it was discovered in, the Rosetta Stone was created over two thousand years ago and on it was the clue to finally decoding ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. 

Hieroglyphics was a complicated way of writing in ancient Egyptian times which used thousand of symbols. Some of the symbols represented sounds, like our letters, whilst others stood for whole words. Written on the Rosetta Stone was a passage of text, but it was in three different languages: hieroglyphics, demotic (old Egyptian) and Greek. It finally unlocked the secret of how to read hieroglyphics because scholars knew what was being said in a language we still speak today.

It starts as a hobby. As a child you collect stamps or toy cars or rocks. At first, collecting is an activity you do in your spare time or after doing your chores. 

Perhaps you collect a few rocks here and a few rocks there. Then one day you realize that the shelves in your room are bulging with rocks. So, you move them to the basement or the attic where there is more space.

As you get older, you learn more about rocks, and you talk with other collectors. You begin to think, “Maybe this isn’t just a hobby. Can it be a business?”. So, you open a rock shop.

Peter David loved to paint and dreamed of becoming an artist. When he was in fourth grade, he and his friend Sam Stane, painted their first mural of a dinosaur in art class. Little did Peter know that that dinosaur mural was the first of many murals he would paint with Sam.

Years later, the childhood friends, now both artists, decided to go into business together painting murals. They painted a large mural called “Dreams of Fight” at a primary school in California. They said, “We’ve always wanted this mural to speak to the children who see it. To help them think that their dreams can come true”. 

It is the artists’ hope that over time the mural will inspire many of the children who see it to work hard and follow their dreams.
